Mission Statement
The most important element in recovery from mental illness is for sufferers as well as friends, family, and the community to understand that mental illness is a treatable and even curable disease. Too often, victims of this debilitating disease lack the resources needed to ensure proper diagnosis and recovery. More importantly the need to raise public awareness is imperative. With few exceptions, sufferers of mental illness are intelligent, (often brilliant), creative, talented, and of course extremely lovable individuals. Medical treatments such as cognitive therapy, talk therapy, and prescription medications are only a part of the cure. The most important aspect of recovery is that a patient has loving support and encouragement from friends and family members.
Aside from love and understanding, Looney Ben operates on the premise that "Laughter is the best medicine". Our goal is to help raise public awareness of the facts about mental illness. We donate funds for scientific research into the causes of mental illness and to discover more effective treatments. We are all courageous and we gain much wisdom through our fight with faith and hope. That is something truly admirable. So as we continue our journey to raise awareness, bring joy, new found friendships, and peace to all who suffer because of mental illness, let we never lose sight that we will find it at the at the other end of the rainbow.
